We have had a wonderful start to our new academic year! We welcome Raquel, Maxwell, Trinity, Arjan, Zediwa, Nhenzi, and Emnet from our lower elementary community and Langston from another community. All the children have settled in very well and are back to their routine. It is wonderful to see the older children helping the younger, creating bonds of friendship.
It is also very fascinating to see how children are keen observers. They notice every little thing that has changed in their environment! For the first couple of weeks, I constantly heard comments like, "Wow Ms. Shireen! Nice job!! Our classroom looks great!!!" or "Nice upgrades!!" I also heard them talking to each other, "You know!!! I cannot believe that I am in upper elementary, I do miss lower el but upper el is so much fun and it is a lot more challenging!!!"
In addition to our regular Montessori curriculum, our class will study the Romans over the course of the next couple of months. If you have any books or artifacts related to this topic, please send them along.
As we move closer to Fall, the weather is changing. Please have your child bring a light jacket that can stay at school. Also make sure that they eat breakfast before coming to school. We do provide snack around 9:30.
To foster independence and run our community smoothly, each child has a weekly job. On the week they are assigned "Laundry", they will bring home a load of towels and placemats. Please have your child launder, fold and bring them back to school on Monday. (And then totally turn this into them doing their own laundry each week!)
Lastly, thank you all so much for attending our Kick-Off Meeting. It was great seeing you all! I can't wait to see you all again at the family picnic!
