August has been a great month, and I'm looking forward to September even more. Getting to know your children has been wonderful. They have made me feel right at home, and have impressed me with their curiosity and work ethic. They have been working very hard on individual research reports, group projects, spelling and vocabulary "points", and practicing their Montessori work.
Getting accustomed to a new teacher, new environment and many new friends coming from both lower elementary and other schools has been the children's main "big work" in August. However, we have also found time become mad scientists designing our own animal, learn about the Beatles timeless music (and their mysterious album covers), research the circulatory system, the periodic table and the five states of matter (yes, five!) and celebrate Maria Montessori's (our heroine's) birthday. We have acquired a desktop computer (thanks Mr. Tom and Ms. Trayce - and Ms. Lani for picking it up) which will come in handy for both research and touch typing lessons.
We have a lot going on in September - from our Family Picnic on the 7th to an Emu cooking fundraiser on the 14th to our early year overnight field trip to Camp Kiwanis on September 20th. The children will be joining book clubs, coming up with ways to help our local homeless community, designing their own "robot", and presenting their research reports to the class. We will need and greatly appreciate your support with all of these (and more!)
