The February Cardinals Newsletter
Happy New Year Cardinal Families!!
I believe that we had one of the most welcoming and “happy to be back” beginning of a new year. The children were very excited to get back to work doing activities they loved and looking forward to new lessons by practicing and mastering them…. And the joyful work hasn’t stopped!
Recently we had the Open House; after helping me clean the whole classroom from top to bottom including the walls, (even if I am 'done' with that) the children are continuing polishing every glass, brass, wood and silver item we have in our environment. :) You can hear interesting conversations and discussions about how shiny they need to be, how much polish is needed to achieve that, how much is too much, and how you can't use silver polish to polish glass!!
The children loved Bring a Parent To School Day. They had a great opportunity to show the work they love and hopefully all parents were able to see how integrated everyone is into the daily class routine: how careful they are using the materials and how they take responsibility and care in cleaning up after themselves so the next person can also use the materials. They own the class and each calls it, my classroom.
Now that February is here, we are thinking about red hearts, showing love and kindness towards our classmates, and valentine cards. We are celebrating our Valentine's Day on Feb 14th (Wed). If you plan to bring in cards to share with others, please be sure that there is one for every child in our class (26 children). It would be easy to exchange cards if only the “from” section is filled, and leave the “to” blank. Handmade cards show how much you care and if there are some who also want to give little gifts, pencils, erasers, bookmarks, healthy snacks, etc., are requested rather than candy. Strawberries, strawberry milk and strawberry cup cakes baked by the children are on the menu for the celebration.
We will also celebrate the Chinese New Year on Friday, February 16th. Please help make the day more festive by sending your child to school dressed in red, the traditional color of happiness in China.
We would love to have you send some books about friendship and love during the celebration week as well as books about the Chinese New Year. For both of our celebrations, I will have a sign-up on our notice board for you who want to bring just some of the items we need to make our celebrations more fun and memorable.
